Team Tracey - Re-Edit Project

The Tracey Fragments wurde im September 2007 auf Basis der Creative Commons Attribution im Internet zum Download freigegeben. Insgesamt stehen rund 16 Gigabyte an Filmmaterial zur Verfügung, welches Interessierte und kreative Köpfe über das BitTorrent Netzwerk herunterladen können. Es gibt insgesamt 4 ZIP Archive - eines für jede Drehwoche - welche Hunderte von Quicktime Clips (.mov) beinhalten, die wiederum später größtenteils in Form von einzelnen Fragmenten im finalen Schnitt verwendet worden sind.

Anhand vom Rohmaterial kann man den Film von einer ganz anderen Seite und Perspektive kennen lernen und erlebt die Darsteller gleichzeitig hautnah bei den Dreharbeiten. Auch wenn die Datenmenge riesig ist, ist sie einen Blick wert. Bemerkenswert ist außerdem, dass das Team Tracey diesen Schritt getan hat, bevor der Film im Oktober beziehungsweise November 2007 überhaupt in Kanada und in den USA im Kino angelaufen ist. Dies ist wirklich einzigartig und Fans von Ellen und dem Film sollten diese Chance nutzen, wer weiß wann es wieder ein solches Projekt in der Independent Szene gibt.

Inhalt:

Tracey ist 15 und lebt in einem eher prekären Elternhaus. Ihr deprimierter Vater nennt seine Kinder "Unfälle", ihre depressive Mutter sitzt nur noch rauchend vorm Fernseher. Als sie dahinterkommen, dass Tracey ihren kleinen Bruder Sonny hypnotisiert hat, sodass er glaubt, er sei ein Hund, schicken sie ihre Tochter zum Psychiater. Tracey leidet schwer an der Pubertät; von den Mitschülern wird sie gequält. So flüchtet sie sich in Träume und stellt sich vor, sie wäre berühmt, ein großer Film- und Rockstar. Auch Billy Zero spielt in diesen Träumen eine große Rolle. Aber in Wahrheit hat der neue Schüler, in den Tracey verliebt ist, noch nicht einmal registriert, dass sie überhaupt existiert.
Als Sonny spurlos verschwindet, lässt Tracey all das hinter sich und macht sich auf die Suche nach ihrem Bruder. Dabei nimmt ihre Odyssee immer stärker die Züge eines Albtraums an. In der Stadt lernt sie den Stricher Lance kennen, der sie in eine heruntergekommene Kneipe lockt. Als er dort in eine Schlägerei verwickelt wird, stürmt Tracey hinaus in die winterliche Nacht und bricht, von Erscheinungen Sonnys heimgesucht, in einer dunklen Gasse zusammen. Lance rettet sie vor dem aufkommenden Blizzard und nimmt sie zu sich nach Hause. Einige Tage später taucht dort ein Krimineller auf, dem Lance noch Geld schuldet. Weil er es nicht zurückgeben kann, schlägt der Besucher ihn brutal zusammen - bis Lance ihm schließlich Tracey als Ersatz für die ausstehende Summe andient. Nur knapp, mit Gewalt, und allein mit einem Duschvorhang bekleidet, gelingt dem Mädchen die Flucht... In diesem Zustand hat der Zuschauer Tracey am Anfang des Films kennen gelernt. Aber mit ihrer Erzählung ist sie noch lange nicht am Ende.

Backgroundinformationen:

Der Film “The Tracey Fragments”, der auf dem gleichnamigen Roman der kanadischen Schriftstellerin Maureen Medved basiert, macht seinem Namen alle Ehre und wird die Geschichte immer nur in kleinen Teilen - eben “Fragments” - erzählen. Dabei ist nicht eindeutig, ob das Fragment nun der Wahrheit entspricht oder es nur Fantasie und Einbildung beziehungsweise eine Lüge, die sich Tracey selbst als Wahrheit einreden will. Gedreht wurde stets mit 2 bis 3 Kameras, deren Aufnahmen die Grundlage für die Fragmente bilden. Oft wurde die Hauptszene einfach weitergedreht und als Hintergrund für die neuen Fragmente verwendet. Die eigentliche Drehzeit betrug 14 Tage, anschließend haben drei Editoren mehrere Monate lang (es werden schätzungsweise 90 Tage genannt) den Film in Fragmente zerlegt und ein einzigartiges Kunstwerk geschaffen. Der Film selbst feierte kurz nach der Fertigstellung im Februar 2007 bei der 57. Berlinale in Deutschland seine Premiere.

Zwar hat er dort keinen Publikumspreis erhalten, kam aber dennoch sehr gut beim Publikum an, denn alle 5 Vorstellungen waren nahezu ausverkauft. Am Ende wurde “The Tracey Fragments” der Manfred Salzgeber Preis als innovativster Film beziehungsweise als einen die Grenzen des Kinos erweiternden Spielfilm im Panorama verliehen. Bruce McDonald, dessen Erwartungen nach eigenen Angaben bei weitem übertroffen wurden, sagte zur Auszeichnung: “I am so honoured on behalf of the ‘Tracey’ team to win a prize for innovative filmmaking. It’s an amazing end to a great festival”.
